NEVER PLEAD GUILTY IF YOU ARE NOT GUILTY!

Police Mug Shot of Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho

Today, Sept. 1st, 2007, Idaho U.S. Senator Larry Craig is expected to resign, according to news reports, over his alleged homosexual solicitation of a cop in the toilet. It seems Craig peered at the cop through the stall and then sat down in the stall next to the cop and bumped his foot against the cops and then slid his hand under the stall which the police say is how gay men signal men in the toilets when they want them to join them in the stall for a game of kiss the weenie.  The Senator has been accused of being gay for several years and now an undercover cop running a sting operation to catch homosexuals who solicit other men for sex in the commodes of the Minneapolis-St.Paul airport says he caught him in the act of soliciting sex and arrested him. The audio tape of Craig’s interrogation with the cop who arrested him down at the police station was released and I, like most of America listened in on the news. I didn’t find anything that proved that Sen. Craig was soliciting the cop for sex, and everything seemed to be the cop’s word against Sen. Craig’s. So why the fuss? Well, even if the cop’s allegations against him were not true and it were entrapment or a set up, I can see where Sen. Craig made two very grave mistakes. Here is some advice that everyone needs to follow:

  1. When arrested, never, I repeat NEVER, talk to the police without your lawyer present. If you can not afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you by the court. I don’t care how nice the cops appear to be, or even if they offer you a candy bar and a cup of coffee and tell you they just want to clear up a couple of things and then let you go. DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES UNTIL YOUR LAWYER ARRIVES, and even then let your attorney do the talking. Anything YOU say can and WILL be used against you, so keep your mouth shut. Craig made a grave mistake by carrying on conversation with them.
  2. Never plead guilty to anything if you are NOT GUILTY! I don’t care if they tell you if you plead guilty to a lesser charge it will only be a small fine and it will go away. Once you say you are guilty, you are guilty, end of story. This is where Craig made his fatal mistake. He claims that although he was not guilty and not gay, he pled guilty to a lesser charge so it would go away and he wouldn’t have to be bothered with it anymore. Yeah right! We saw how well that worked in the last few days now didn’t we?

Of course I remember when Michael Jackson paid ten million dollars or more in hush money to the parents of a little boy who said Jackson had molested him, saying that he was not guilty but that he paid the money just so it would go away! Yeah right! Did anyone at all, really believe Jackson that nothing went on and that he did not have sex with that little boy? The truth of the matter is, when you pay money to settle that is the same as admitting guilt. And when you plead guilty to a lesser charge, that is the same as admitting guilt also.

The truth of the matter is, no one knows what really happened in that bathroom, except the Senator, the cop, and God, as to whether it was entrapment by a crooked cop being paid off by the Democrats, or if the old guy who is a U.S. Senator really moonlights as the Brokeback Bathroom Cowboy!

The fact remains Sen. Craig, whether guilty or not, hung his own self. He has no one to blame but the man looking back at him in the mirror. Normally we of the GOP could stand behind an elected official who is accused of something he denies, especially when there is no proof, but Craig made it impossible for us to do that when he plead guilty. If he were not guilty then he should have sued that cop for every dime he had and put his police department under investigation. He failed to do so and pled guilty to a lesser charge. Now the proper thing to do is to resign and let the Governor of Idaho appoint a good strong conservative republican to finish out Craig’s term and then get re-elected when the term is up. Next year, 2008, will be a crucial election as it is a battle for the very heart and soul of America, as we of the Republican Party fight to take back our Senate and Congress who have been high jacked by the godless Democrats. We can not afford to lose one seat and we must gain at least two more if we expect to be back in the majority. If Craig were to hold on to his seat, we would lose Idaho for sure. The right thing to do is to resign and it appears Craig has decided to do just that.

The ironic thing is, if Craig would have been a Democrat, he would have probably been offered a spot as Hillary’s running mate or even given a stronger leadership position in the Senate after visiting Brokeback bathroom!
